Tried switching to a full face mask on a 60 foot river job in Vicksburg and it cost me a whole day
Everyone in my crew swears by full face masks for dirty water work so I finally tried one on a pipeline inspection job last month. The visor fogged up twice in the first 20 minutes and I couldn't reach my nose to clear it, so I was basically diving blind at 60 feet. My comms were great, I'll give it that, but I burned 45 minutes just getting my bearings on a job that normally takes me 2 hours tops. Went back to my old band mask the next day and knocked it out in 90 minutes flat. I know the safety guys love full face for the backup air, but for my money the trade off in visibility and comfort is not worth it on short shallow jobs. Has anyone here found a way to keep the visor clear without pulling the mask, or am I just wearing it too loose?
