People push through safety shortcuts because they're in a hurry, but that's exactly when accidents happen. A moment of impatience can cost you fingers or worse, and it's never worth the time you thought you saved. Slowing down for a few seconds might feel like a drag, but it beats a trip to the ER every time.

My uncle used to say the same thing about ladders. He was always in a rush to get the Christmas lights down and fell off the roof twice in one weekend. Both times he was fine but the second time the ladder landed on his neighbor's prize petunias and that was the real tragedy.
