Warning: Almost lost a critical tool in zero viz last month.

Ngl, I was inspecting a dam and my pliers came loose. I always check clips twice now. What's your method for gear checks?

After my light clip failed once, I started a full hands-on check before every dive. I physically tug each piece, don't just look. Running through the same list in the same order helps me not miss anything. I do it once on the surface and again right before I go under.

Sound smart. Full hands-on is the only way. Learned the hard way when my knife strap felt tight on the surface but popped off at depth. Now I pull every D-ring, yank my weight pockets, and actually try to open my BCD clips with my thick gloves on. That visual check misses stuff that moves when you do. Doing it in the same order is key, because your brain goes on auto-pilot and will scream if something is out of place. The second check right before you drop catches the stuff that got knocked loose gearing up.

Your light clip actually failed? In zero viz that's my actual nightmare. I'd be feeling for my gear in the dark and just find an empty d-ring.
