Datacenter cable management vs. under-desk rats nest, I switched sides
Spent 12 years doing corporate under-desk work where people think zip ties are a personality. Last month got pulled into a colo in Austin to trace a fiber run and those guys labeled everything, color coded, vertical managers. Took me 20 minutes to find a bad SFP versus the 4 hours I wasted Tuesday digging through a pile of tangled Cat6 behind a receptionist desk. I get it now, proper cable management ain't about looks, it's about your own sanity when a switch dies at 2 AM. Anyone else flip their opinion after working in a real DC for the first time?

Is it really that deep though, or did you just get lucky with a place that actually has their stuff together? I've seen plenty of DCs that are just as messy, they just hide it behind locked racks and panels. Good labeling helps, sure, but a 20 minute trace sounds more like a solid day for the team that built it, not a win for cable management itself.
