Field trip to a data center changed my whole cabling approach

Last Tuesday I tagged along with a buddy who does server maintenance at a colocation facility near Austin. Watching how they bundle fiber and power in those racks was like seeing a totally different world compared to my messy patch panels. Their rule was simple: every cable gets a label at both ends and a service loop, no exceptions, and they do it in under 20 minutes per rack. I tried it on my own customer's network closet the next day and cut my troubleshooting time in half already. Anyone else had a moment where you saw a pro's setup and instantly realized your own methods were outdated?

every cable gets a label at both ends" hit me hard too, it's wild how much time we waste untangling crap that could've been avoided with five minutes of prep. It's like the same pattern as people who actually use folders for their email vs. just dumping everything in the inbox, the pros always win.
