Finally cracked a GPU overheating riddle after 3 days of head scratching
Client brought in an RTX 3080 that kept crashing under load, temps shot to 90c. I reseated it, replaced paste, even checked case airflow, nothing moved. Then I noticed the card sagged just a touch, like a few millimeters. I wedged a small support bracket under the corner and boom, temps dropped to 70c. Turns out the heavy cooler was flexing the PCB enough to lose contact on one side of the die. Has anyone else fixed a weird thermal issue that ended up being a mounting or sag problem?
