Ghost partitions ate 4 hours of my Thursday

Got a call from a client in Toledo about a drive showing wrong capacity in Windows. Checked Disk Management, saw the space was there but unallocated and hidden behind a partition that didn't show in Explorer. Tried the standard cleanup and rescan tools, nothing. Ended up booting a Linux USB and using gparted to find a stale EFI entry from an old dual boot setup. Took a solid 4 hours for what should have been a 20 minute fix. Has anyone else run into phantom partitions that just laugh at the normal Windows tools?
