Got burned buying a $30 thermal paste applicator tool
Thought it would save time compared to the dot method, but the spread was uneven and my CPU temps jumped 5 degrees. Had to redo the whole thing with the old pea method anyway. Anybody else fall for gimmick tools that just make more work?

Did you watch the same review videos I did before buying that thing? I picked up one of those syringe style applicators and ended up with a thick paste blob on one corner of the CPU and almost nothing on the other side. Took me three tries with an old gift card to get it right again. Nothing beats just dabbing a pea sized drop in the middle and letting the cooler pressure do the work.

Exactly what happened to me. I bought that fancy syringe kit with the little spatula and everything. First try I squeezed too hard and got a massive glob right on the edge of the chip. Spent twenty minutes scraping it off with an old plastic card and paper towels. Pea sized drop in the middle is just foolproof. The cooler spreads it out perfectly every time, no fuss. That syringe method is way overrated for how easy it is to mess up.

And that's exactly why I still use the credit card method for spreading paste manually. Way cheaper and at least you can see how even the coverage is before you clamp down the cooler.
