Honestly, that's a perfect way to put it. It's all about the process of elimination. Like, if a computer won't turn on, you swap the power supply. If it boots but crashes, you test the RAM. You're just isolating the broken piece, same as checking spark plugs or a fuel pump. The real skill is knowing which part to try next without wasting a ton of time or money.

He's not wrong, just describing it in a nicer way than I would. My process is basically just educated guessing with extra steps. At least cars have the decency to make a weird noise first.
