Noticed a big shift in how clients treat small shop repairs vs big box stores
Over the last year I've seen more people bringing in old laptops for simple fixes like a new battery or fan replacement instead of just tossing them. I swear about 8 out of 10 jobs I did this month were stuff they used to send to Best Buy or just throw away. Is anyone else seeing more of this frugal mindset or is it just my area?

I mean my cousin runs a repair shop in Portland and he's been saying the same thing but honestly I think it depends on the neighborhood. In my experience people have been doing this for years it's just maybe more noticeable now because of inflation or whatever. I'm skeptical it's some huge shift in thinking maybe just a seasonal thing where people have less money around the holidays. Plus those older laptops are actually easier to fix than the sealed up new ones so it makes sense from a repair standpoint. Take it with a grain of salt though your area could just have more tight budget types.

I actually see it pretty differently around here. Last month alone I had three people bring in ten year old Dells that they wanted me to upgrade the RAM and swap an SSD into instead of just buying new ones. That's not something I saw hardly at all a couple years back. It might be inflation driving it but I think people are starting to realize these older machines can still work just fine with a little love.
