Power supply gave out on a client's Dell Optiplex 7050 yesterday

Was swapping drives and it just went dead. No pop, no smell, but the power light on the mobo blinked once and died. Tried a different PSU from my parts bin and it fired right up. Anyone run into these Dell OEM units failing after 3-4 years?

Three to four years is pretty typical for those Dell power supplies honestly, they're not built to last like a decent aftermarket unit would.

Yeah that's mostly true @terry_thomas but the newer OptiPlex ones seem to hold up a bit better, I've seen a few hit 5+ years without dying. Still wouldn't trust them in a gaming build or anything though.
