Spent $40 on a 'professional' static strap that was just a piece of string
So I was working on this high-end gaming rig for a client, the kind where they watch you like a hawk. I figured I'd look extra legit and bought this 'industrial grade' anti-static wrist strap online for about forty bucks. The package looked fancy, had all these warnings and certifications. Get it out, and the actual strap part is literally a thin piece of cotton string with a cheap metal clip. The 'coiled cord' was a joke, maybe six inches long total. I clipped it on, went to ground myself on the case, and the clip just popped right off the string. Client didn't say anything, but I saw him raise an eyebrow. Ended up just touching the power supply like usual. Anyone have a go-to brand for this stuff that isn't a complete scam?

Bought a "military grade" watch once that had a compass that just pointed at my belly button.

The real scam is those certification stickers, they're just cheap printouts. I keep a three dollar hardware store strap in my bag as a backup.
