Stopped by a data center tour in Council Bluffs last Friday and saw how they handle cable runs
A tech there showed me they label both ends of every fiber run with a tiny printer before it even goes in the tray, saved them hours on the last outage. I've been doing patch cables the lazy way for 8 years and now I feel dumb. Does anyone here pre-label before running, or do you just trace it out later like me?
The part about labeling each end with a tiny printer before it even goes in the tray is what got me. I had a buddy who ran sound at a small venue and he did the same thing with every mic cable, labeled both ends and even wrote the length on there. Saved him so much time when something went dead mid show. I keep meaning to buy one of those little label makers for my own stuff but I always forget until I'm already buried in a mess of cables. Eight years of tracing things out by hand is a hard habit to break I bet.
