My old HP laptop ran fine for like 8 years and I never touched the paste once. Temps were a little warm near the end but nothing scary. People act like dried paste is some kind of time bomb but most chips just throttle themselves and keep chugging along. A 6 year old Dell getting a repaste and suddenly running cool could just as easily be from cleaning out the dust bunnies while you had it open. That's the part nobody wants to admit, the dust was probably the real problem. Not saying repasting never helps, but calling it magic based on one old machine feels like a stretch.
