Just realized my old trick for cold joints on a driveway job last month

We had a big driveway pour in early March, and the air was still pretty cold. I knew we would have a cold joint where we stopped for lunch. Instead of just brushing it, I mixed a small batch of pure cement and water into a thick paste. Right before we started the next truck, I troweled that paste onto the old edge. It made the new concrete bond like it was one piece, no weak line at all. Anyone else try something like that on a cold weather pour?

That paste trick might just hide a weak spot that fails later.

Have you tried it yourself? I've used that method for years and it actually makes the joint stronger, not weaker.

Add a bit of fiberglass mesh first.
