My crew boss called my broom finish 'too perfect' on a big patio job last month
He said it looked like a factory floor, not a backyard. I always aimed for super smooth, but he pointed out that a little texture gives better grip when it's wet. I started leaving the broom lines a bit deeper, maybe an eighth of an inch. The homeowner last week actually thanked me for thinking about safety. Anyone else get told their finish was too good? What's your go-to broom pressure?

Ever try a wet broom on a cooler day? The concrete sets slower and you can pull a really consistent, deep pattern without tearing. I agree with @susan_mason about pool decks, but I use that same method on any walkway. It leaves a clean look that still has plenty of bite. A dry broom on hot concrete just skips and gives you that uneven, weak texture.

My uncle swears by a wet broom, but he also adds a little sugar to the mix to slow the set even more.

That's a solid point about safety. A deeper broom finish really does help, especially on pool decks or anywhere that gets slick. I aim for about the same depth you mentioned, just enough to break up the shine without looking sloppy. It's a balance for sure.
