Saw a crew in Fresno floating a slab with way too much water and I had to say something
I was driving past a new build off Shaw Ave last Tuesday and pulled over because I could see the mix was soup. They were adding water at the chute like it was free, that grey watery sheen on top told me everything. I walked over and asked the finisher how many gallons they were going through and he said they always do it this way because it "finishes easier." Here is the thing, that slab will hit maybe 2500 psi instead of the 3500 they spec'd and they won't find out until it starts dusting or cracking in a year. I have poured enough flatwork around the valley to know that easy finishing today means callbacks tomorrow. I told him about a driveway I did in 2019 where I let it get away from me on water and it spalled within two winters, cost me the whole job. He just shrugged and kept going. Am I out of line for saying something to a crew that isn't mine, or do you all speak up when you see it?
