Switched to a magnesium float after 8 years of using wood and wow

Honestly I always thought wood floats were the only way to go for a smooth finish. My buddy talked me into trying his magnesium float on a driveway pour in Phoenix last week. The difference in how the cream came up and how flat the finish stayed was night and day. I finished the whole 30 yard slab in almost half the time. Has anyone else made the switch and regretted going back?

Ngl that dry heat in Phoenix probably made it feel even smoother. I'm curious though - did you notice any difference in how the magnesium handled the edges compared to wood? A buddy of mine claims you lose that ability to pull the cream up near forms with mag, but I've heard the opposite from others. I've only used mag on small jobs myself, never a 30 yarder. And did you have to switch up your finishing technique at all or was it pretty much the same motions?

Wait, are you thinking straight edge or a formed curb?

Came here to say the exact same thing, that mag float changed my whole finishing game too.
