Dropped $150 on a premium survival knife that broke on day two of a bushcraft weekend

The blade snapped clean off while I was batoning a piece of pine, and now I'm stuck using a $5 hatchet from a gas station, so has anyone else bought into the hype on a pricey tool that just couldn't handle real work?

It snapped on day two? That's rough, man. In my experience, a lot of those fancy survival knives are made more for looks than work. I've seen guys spend big on brands that just can't handle the real world stuff like batoning. Your mileage may vary, but it's often the cheaper, simpler blades that hold up better.

Oh come on, @drew690, is a snapped knife really the end of the world? I get that it's annoying, sure, but people act like it's a life or death failure. Most times, you can just grab another stick or use a rock if you really need to split wood. I've had cheap knives snap and I just moved on with my day. It's not like the knife is the only tool you've got out there. Sometimes folks just overthink this stuff.
