Hot take: I started reading 3 pages of the actual bill before believing a video about it, and my whole view flipped
Last month my cousin sent me a 20 minute clip saying a new state bill would ban home gardens in Texas. Sounded crazy so I pulled up the actual text on the legislature site and read the first 3 pages. Turns out the bill was about seed labeling rules for commercial farms, nothing about gardens at all. The clip cut the sentence right before the part explaining that. Anyone else got a trick for checking these things fast? I usually just search the bill number plus the word 'purpose' now.
Same thing happened to me with a video about a school funding bill. 10 minutes of outrage and it turned out to be about bus routes. Ctrl+F is my best friend now, just search for the actual words people are freaking out about.
