I finally broke down and bought a cheap backup camera for my truck

My 2012 F-150 has been blind spot city ever since I put a topper on it last fall. Last Tuesday I backed right into a low metal pole at the Home Depot parking lot in Tulsa and smashed my tail light. Cost me $180 to get it replaced and I was so mad I ordered a $40 wireless camera off Amazon that same night. The thing took 20 minutes to install and actually works pretty decent so far. Has anyone else had luck with those cheap aftermarket backup cams or do they all die after a few months?

Oh man, that sucks about your tail light. A buddy of mine (coworker, actually) grabbed one of those cheap $30 cams for his old Tacoma and it's still kicking like two years later. He did say he had to replace the wiring harness once after a really wet winter, but the camera itself held up fine. The only real problem he had was the adhesive pad gave out in the summer heat, so he had to use some double-sided tape from the hardware store. I figure for the price, even if you have to buy a new one every year, it's still cheaper than one more fender bender.

Just don't get one with those suction cup mounts, I watched my neighbor's cam fly off his windshield doing 60 on the highway and it almost took out the car behind him. lmao
