I swear the trees in my neighborhood changed shape after the power line crew came through

Back in March the utility guys trimmed everything around the lines near my house in Dallas, and now the oaks on my block look totally different... almost like they're growing lopsided away from the wires. I measured a few trunks and the branches are 3 feet shorter on one side than the other, which seems weird for just trimming. Has anyone else noticed permanent shape shifts in trees after utility work, or am I just seeing things?

Wait, you actually MEASURED them? That's wild. I can't believe you pulled out a tape measure on your own trees like some kind of tree detective. That's next level dedication.

My friend actually did this with her hydrangeas last spring. She was so convinced one of them was secretly way taller than the others, so she went inside, grabbed the measuring tape from the kitchen drawer, and spent like 20 minutes in the rain measuring each one. Her neighbor saw her through the window and started cracking up, brought over a coffee and called her "plant detective" for the rest of the week. She said it helped her decide which ones needed more sun, but honestly I think she just wanted to settle a personal score with that one bush.

Gotta love that kind of friendly rivalry with a plant, honestly. It's funny how we turn little backyard things into full on missions, but I think it's part of a bigger pattern where people just need to settle small mysteries in their own lives. Like my husband does the same with our lawn, pacing around and staring at patches of grass like he's solving a crime scene. Your friend being called a plant detective totally fits that, it's just us everyday folks trying to make sense of our own little worlds one bush at a time.
