My grandma's coleslaw looked totally different after 40 years

I was helping my grandma clean out her fridge last Saturday and noticed her coleslaw had turned a weird pink color. She said it used to be white and creamy 40 years ago when she first made it. Turns out she switched from regular white vinegar to apple cider vinegar back in 2005 and never thought about how it changed the look. Has anyone else had a family recipe quietly transform like that over the decades?

42 servings of that coleslaw over the years and nobody noticed the shift until now. That's wild. My mom did the same thing with her spaghetti sauce back in the 90s. Swapped out canned tomatoes for fresh ones from a farmer's market. Sauce went from bright red to almost orange. Took us ten years to figure out why it changed.

That thing about the apple cider vinegar totally tracks. My buddy Ryan's mom used to make this killer potato salad and one year it came out kinda purple. Turns out she'd run out of regular paprika and used smoked paprika instead. Never went back though, said it tasted better that way.
