My mechanic said my car was fine - then the alternator died on the highway 2 days later
Took my 2012 Civic to the shop last Monday for a weird humming noise, they said it was nothing. 48 hours later I'm stuck on I-95 at 11pm with the battery light on and smoke coming from under the hood. Anybody else have a shop brush off something that turned into a major failure?

Wait, they said a humming noise from a Honda is nothing? That's basically the car screaming for help.

Honda humming is definitely the car telling you something's wrong. My CR-V started making that noise last year, turns out it was a wheel bearing on its last legs. Cheap fix if you catch it early, but ignoring it just makes the repair bill bigger.
