My scanner threw a false reading and now I'm doubting every lead I chase
Last Tuesday in Akron, my EMF detector spiked hard in a basement that turned out to be nothing but old wiring. I spent 6 hours chasing a lead that was just bad equipment. Has anyone else had a tool fail on them during a serious investigation and talked yourself out of trusting your instincts after?

Honestly, six hours on a false reading sounds more like a boring Tuesday than a crisis of faith in your own judgment. A cheap tool glitching out doesn't mean your instincts are broken, it just means you need a new battery or a different basement.
