My uncle in Reno told me to stop trusting the news, and now I can't stop noticing who owns what
Last month my uncle Ray in Reno told me I should start checking who pays for every study I read about coffee or eggs or whatever else is supposed to kill me this week. At first I brushed it off as classic Ray, but then I looked up just one of those big diet studies from 2019 and found out three of the four main authors had ties to a food company that sells the exact product they were defending. It hit different because I always figured bias was something you could spot if you were smart enough, but this was buried in a page 14 disclosure note I would never have read on my own. So now I'm asking everyone here, when you read a headline about some new study, do you actually check who funded it, or do you just trust the summary?
