Overheard a guy at the coffee shop say the moon landings were filmed on a soundstage in Arizona
He said he knew a guy who worked on the set and all the rocks were just painted styrofoam. Made me wonder how many other 'proofs' people toss around are based on a friend of a friend's story.

Does it really matter if some people believe that stuff?

Oh come on, @elliot45, of course it matters. This stuff crowds out actual science conversations and makes it harder for normal people to trust real information. Sure, people can believe what they want, but these ideas spread like a cold in a daycare and suddenly your cousin is arguing with you about whether vaccines work.

Yeah sure, next you'll tell me the rocks on my driveway came from a professional prop department instead of a bag of gravel from Home Depot. Maybe it's just me but if NASA really faked the moon, they probably would have sprung for a more convincing backdrop than Arizona's famous styrofoam desert. People are out here believing in secret moon sets but still can't figure out why their Wi-Fi drops every time it rains.
