The one critique that actually made me stop mispronouncing names

Back in 2019, a coworker flat out told me I was saying 'Nguyen' wrong and it sounded lazy. I spent the next week practicing until I could say it right, now I always ask people how to say their name instead of guessing.

Honestly, I'm not sure I agree. People mess up names all the time and it doesn't always mean they're lazy, sometimes it's just a genuine unfamiliarity with the sounds.

Totally see what you're getting at. It's more about respect and effort than perfection, you know? Like, I notice people who refuse to even try to say a name correctly are usually the same ones who won't bother to learn other basic things about you either. It's a whole pattern where they just don't care about anyone who's different from them. Kinda shows you who's worth your time, honestly lol.
