DAE think self-checkout is just a way to make us work for free?
Overheard a guy at the grocery store tell his friend that self-checkout lanes are just training us to be unpaid employees, and after scanning my own 15 items for the third time this week, I couldn't really argue with him... how do we get out of this deal?

Those self-scan guns at Home Depot let us price check stuff for them too.

Wait, wait. They let you walk around the whole store with those things? That sounds like a total trap. They're basically getting free labor for inventory checks.

Free labor for inventory checks" yeah that's exactly what it feels like. I was at Lowe's last week and some guy with one of those scanners walked right past me while I was looking at paint, totally ignoring me. But then he stopped and scanned like 20 boxes of tile on the bottom shelf, real casual about it. It's kind of genius on their part honestly, they get customers to do the boring stock check work for them while pretending it's a convenience feature. And you can't even say no because then you look like you're up to something suspicious. Makes me feel like a sucker every time.
