My barber in Tucson told me he never votes and I finally got why people sit elections out
I always wrote off non-voters as lazy until my barber Marcus pointed out that his shop on Speedway stays packed 7 days a week and he still can't afford to close for a Tuesday primary he doesn't care about. That hit different because I'd just mailed in my ballot without thinking twice about it. Anyone here actually skip local elections on purpose, or is it just an accident for you?
My buddy Dave runs a food truck and he told me he missed the last three local elections because Tuesdays are his best sales day downtown. He did the math once and said taking a day off costs him around 400 bucks. Hard to blame the guy when rent on his spot went up again this year. Dude cares, he just can't eat a day of pay to stand in line for a school board race nobody explained to him.
