My neighbor lets his dog bark outside from 6am to 10pm. I finally snapped last Tuesday.

The dog has been at it for three years now. I tried talking to him politely about it twice. He just shrugs and says dogs bark. Last Tuesday I called animal control after the dog had been barking nonstop for four hours. They came out and gave him a warning. Now he won't look at me when I'm in the yard. On one hand I feel like I did the right thing for my own peace and quiet. On the other hand I feel bad getting the law involved with a neighbor. Has anyone else had to make that call and how did it turn out?

Honestly, you might've overreacted a little. Three years is a long time but one warning from animal control is gonna make yard time real awkward for the foreseeable future, you know? Was the barking really that bad or did you just finally hit your limit?

Wait, but isn't three years kind of the point though? Like, that's not just a bad day or a new dog figuring things out, that's a whole lifestyle of noise. Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like after three years of 6am to 10pm barking, a warning from animal control isn't overreacting, it's basically the bare minimum. I mean, your neighbor had three whole years to figure something out and he just shrugged it off, so it's not like you didn't try the nice way first. Idk, I think sometimes people need a little push from someone official to actually take it seriously, and it's not your fault he's making yard time awkward now.

Three years is insane. You did the right thing.
