My unpopular opinion: hardware stores should just tell you which screws are trash instead of selling them like they're all the same

I spent 3 hours this past Saturday trying to hang a set of heavy shelves in my garage. The little drywall anchors that came in the kit? Useless. Stripped out before the screw was even halfway in. Drove to Lowe's in Portland, grabbed a different brand, same problem. Finally on the third try I bought a box of toggle bolts from a guy at the counter who actually knew what he was talking about. Total time wasted: 4.5 hours for a 30 minute job. Has anyone else found a brand of drywall anchors that actually holds up without failing?

Used to think all hardware was basically the same, but that garage shelf project completely changed my mind. Wasted a whole Saturday fighting cheap anchors that just crumbled in the drywall. Toggle bolts are the only thing I trust now for anything heavier than a picture frame.

I used to think those kind of weekends were great but after reading that I totally see what you mean. It really made me rethink how I spend my time.
