The day I stopped hating meal prep Sundays
For 3 months I swore by cooking fresh every single night. Then I worked 5 night shifts in a row and hit a wall. I caved and batch cooked 8 chicken bowls with rice and broccoli on my day off. It took 2 hours and saved me about $60 that week. Now I do it every Sunday and I actually look forward to it. Has anyone else flip-flopped on meal prep after a brutal work stretch?

That bit about "flip-flopped" really hit home. It's funny how we get so locked into doing things one way, especially when it feels like the "right" way, that we miss when the old method stops working. It's like the same pattern I see with people and their morning routines or even their gym schedules, we treat a good habit like it has to be rigid to count. But really, survival mode in a brutal week is what teaches you the actual best way to do things. You just had to get pushed to that wall before you could see the simple, obvious win in front of you.

Flipping it around, the real lesson might be that "right" is just a story we tell ourselves. We think a routine works because we've always done it that way, not because it actually fits the current situation. But a brutal week strips away all the ego and history, it just shows you what's factually true about your limits and your energy. So the flip-flopping isn't a weakness, it's the only honest response to new information. The rigid routine was never the point, the outcome was, and you just found a faster way to get it.
