Unpopular opinion: that viral '5-minute morning routine' broke my whole week, and nobody warned me
Honestly, I fell for one of those productivity routines that blew up on social media back in January, the one where you wake up at 5am, cold plunge, journal, and read 20 pages before your first coffee. I gave it 9 days straight and by day 6 I was snapping at clients over email and almost lost a showing in Scottsdale because I wrote down the wrong address in my fog. The breaking point was a Tuesday when I left my keys in the front door overnight and my neighbor knocked at 6am to hand them back. Ngl, the thing nobody says out loud is that these routines are built for people who already sleep 8 hours and work from a couch, not for anyone with a real schedule. I switched back to 7 hours of sleep and a normal breakfast and my week straightened out in 2 days. I get why people push this stuff, but treating one wake-up time like a law of nature is how you end up worse off than before. Has anyone else had a routine fall apart on them like that, or am I just bad at mornings?
You're blaming the routine but it sounds like the real issue was doing 9 days of something your body wasn't ready for instead of easing into it. Waking up at 5am with only 7 hours of sleep just means you were running on 6 or less, and no routine is gonna save you from that. Most people who swear by the 5am thing built up to it over weeks or months, not cold turkey off a viral video. The cold plunge and journaling and reading are extras, the sleep is the whole point, and if you skip that part then yeah your week falls apart. Sounds less like a bad routine and more like a bad way to start one.
