Vent: the Overrated Charm of Austin Texas is a Total Myth
I visited Austin last month for a weekend and honestly I dont get the hype. Everyone talks about the live music and food scene but I waited 45 minutes for a $14 taco that was just ok. The traffic on I-35 was so bad it took me an hour to go 5 miles. Has anyone else visited and felt like its just a crowded overpriced version of any other mid sized city?

45 minutes for a taco sounds like a personal problem. You picked the wrong spot and now the whole city is overrated? Maybe next time just grab a burger from a food truck and skip the line.

Traffic on I-35 is genuinely terrible, no argument there. The whole live music hype is more about the deep history than what you'll find on any given weekend these days. That said, waiting in line for a $14 taco at a trendy spot is a rite of passage for tourists, not really what locals do. The real food scene is in the hole-in-the-wall taquerias and the old school BBQ joints that don't have a line around the block. Friend of mine lives there and swears the key is to stick to the neighborhoods outside downtown and 6th Street.
