Ruined my mom's 40 year old cast iron skillet with one dumb move on Sunday
Honestly I still feel sick about this. Last Sunday I was making sausage gravy at my place in Toledo and things were going fine until I got distracted by a phone call from work. The gravy started sticking so I did the one thing you are never ever supposed to do, I dumped cold water straight from the tap into that screaming hot pan to stop the burning. The whole thing cracked right down the middle with a sound like a gunshot and gravy went everywhere, on the stove, on my hoodie, on the floor. This was my mom's skillet, she got it in 1984 and I have been cooking in it for like 3 years since she passed. I spent an hour on the floor picking up pieces and tbh I just sat there for a while after. I know I can get a new one but that seasoning and that history is just gone. Has anyone ever brought a cracked pan back from the dead or is it really over for this one?
