Spent $120 on a fancy cast iron pan, now I'm scared to touch it

I read all these posts about how a good cast iron changes everything, so I finally bought one. First time I used it, I made a tomato sauce and now it's all stripped and rusty in spots. The seasoning guide said not to do that, but I forgot until it was too late. How do you fix a pan that costs more than my grocery bill for the week, or should I just stick to my $15 nonstick?

costs more than my grocery bill for the week" got me. I dropped $90 on mine and immediately burned grilled cheese on it because I panicked and turned the heat too high. The cheap nonstick I used for years never made me nervous like this. But honestly, your pan is fixable. Scrub the rust off with some steel wool, dry it on the stove, then rub a thin layer of oil all over and bake it upside down. It won't look perfect, but it'll work fine. I still reach for my old nonstick most nights because I'm too tired to fuss with the nice one.
