Tried to make my grandma's dumplings from a phone photo of her recipe card, took 4 hours and 3 batches
My grandma passed in 2019 and all I had was a blurry picture of her recipe card with no amounts written down, just stuff like 'flour til it looks right.' I figured it would take maybe an hour, but I went through 3 batches of dough over 4 hours because they kept turning into hockey pucks. I finally called my aunt in Erie and she said the secret is warm water from the tap, not cold, which grandma never wrote because she thought everyone just knew that. Batch 4 finally floated and I sat on the kitchen floor and ate them plain out of the pot. What dumb little step did your family leave out of a handed down recipe that you had to figure out the hard way?
A recipe card that says "flour til it looks right" is not a recipe, that's a dare. Your grandma was messing with everyone from the grave and you took the bait for 4 hours.
