Wasted $85 on a mandolin slicer that nearly took my finger off
Bought one of those fancy Benriner ones after seeing it recommended on a cooking forum. Used it once to slice potatoes and the thing slipped right out of my hand. Stitches cost me more than the stupid slicer. Anybody else ditch mandolins for just using a knife?

Nobody talks enough about how those things are basically designed to fail on purpose - the grip is TERRIBLE and the guard is a joke. A sharp knife and a steady hand beat that garbage every time.
