A $12 jar of chili crisp saved my sad leftover rice

Last week I had a fridge full of plain rice, a half onion, and some sad eggs. I almost tossed it all until I remembered that tiny jar of chili crisp my sister left here. One spoonful in the hot pan with the rice and it turned into something I'd actually pay for. It cost me nothing because it was already sitting there, but if I had bought it, that $12 would've been worth it. Anyone else got one condiment that makes anything leftover taste new?

Fish sauce is my magic bullet for this exact situation. I keep a bottle that's been in my fridge door so long the cap is practically fused on, but one dash on leftover rice or noodles and suddenly it tastes like takeout from a place that has actual tablecloths. My wife thinks it smells like a dirty sock, which is fair, but she can't argue with the results when I resurrect a sad container of fried rice from Tuesday. The trick is to add it off the heat so the smell doesn't take over the whole kitchen. Chili crisp is great too, don't get me wrong, but fish sauce is the quiet hero that doesn't get credit. Plus it's like six bucks at the Asian market, so it's actually cheaper than your jar.
