Finally figured out why my chili was always watery after 10 years of making it

I was dumping the canned beans straight in with all the liquid. My buddy pointed it out at a cookout last week and I felt like an idiot. How long did it take you all to realize you were skipping a basic step?

Man that is way more common than people think. I did the same thing for years with my black bean soup until my sister watched me dump the whole can in and just stared at me. Felt like such a rookie after cooking for so long. You're definitely not alone on this one, I bet half the people out there are still making the same mistake. Rinsing the beans makes a huge difference in texture and flavor too, not just the liquidiness.

Wait, you actually didn't rinse them for years? @samwalker that's wild. I always figured the liquid was just extra salt and starch, not something you'd intentionally leave in.
