Had to choose between stale bread or leftover rice for my fried rice hack
Last night I had day-old rice and a half loaf of bread that was going hard, and I picked the rice plus tossed in some leftover bacon grease and frozen peas from Tuesday. Turned out amazing, but I'm curious what everyone else does with stale bread that isn't croutons or bread pudding, any secrets?

Whoa, hold on, I gotta respectfully disagree with picking the rice there! Stale bread is a goldmine for so much more than croutons or pudding. You could have cubed it up, toasted it in that same bacon grease, and tossed it into the rice for an insane texture contrast, crunchy bits mixed with the soft rice. Or honestly, just soak those hard slices in some beaten eggs with a pinch of salt and fry it up like a savory french toast, it makes a killer quick breakfast. The rice was a solid move for sure, but you were sitting on a whole other level of hack with that bread.

Three days ago I threw out a baguette that went rock hard, and I still regret it because there's always a way to save old bread. The thing is, most folks treat food waste like a surprise instead of a pattern, so they grab whatever's easiest in the moment. The real trick is just picking one backup plan for each thing you buy, like knowing the bread's always got an egg soak or a pan fry waiting for it.
