Hot take: my neighbor changed how I see leftover rice

Met this older guy named Frank at my community garden plot last Saturday. He told me he never throws out day-old rice, just fries it with an egg and whatever wilted veg is in his crisper. Said it hit different because he grew up during rationing and learned to stretch everything. Made me realize I was tossing perfectly good ingredients out of lazy habit. Anybody else have a neighbor or random person drop kitchen wisdom on you like that?

Day old rice is actually a food safety hazard if you don't handle it right.

Wait, have you had issues with day old rice before @alicew68? I started putting mine straight into the fridge within an hour of cooking, and I've never had a problem with it for fried rice or anything else since then.
