A client looked at the mirror and said she barely recognized herself, and I still can't decide if I did the right thing
Last month in my chair, a woman in her 50s showed me a photo on her phone of herself from 10 years ago and said, "I just want to look like that again." I spent three hours foiling her hair, and when I turned the chair around, she started crying and said it looked nothing like her. I told her I could fix it or refund her, but she just left without saying another word, and now I'm stuck wondering if I should have pushed back harder on what was realistic. She called two days later and booked another appointment, so maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought? Has anyone else had a client react like that and actually come back?
Guess I'm the odd one out here but crying and then rebooking seems like a pretty normal reaction to a big change. People cry at happy stuff too. Ten years is a long time and seeing yourself with different hair can be a shock even when it looks good. She came back, didn't she? That's the real answer. If she hated it she would have asked for the refund or just ghosted you. Take the win and stop beating yourself up.
