Had a chat with an old client yesterday that totally shifted how I see high-end hair oil
So I was doing a root touch-up on Mrs. Gable, who I've been seeing for like 8 years now, and she mentioned she switched from that expensive brand I always recommended to a $9 drugstore serum. At first I felt a little insulted, not gonna lie. But she said her hair actually felt softer and had less buildup, and she's been getting more compliments. I asked if she changed anything else in her routine, and she said nope, just swapped the oil after the wash. It really made me think about how much hype we put into products that cost a fortune when sometimes the cheap stuff just works better for certain hair types. I mean, I still stand by professional lines for chemical services, but for daily maintenance maybe I've been pushing the wrong stuff. Has anyone else had a client secretly switch to budget products and get better results?

My 80 year old aunt swears by a $5 grocery store hair serum she's used for decades. Her hair looks better than most of my clients.

Well slap me silly and call me a fool! That's just how it goes sometimes. I've got a bottle of that same cheap grocery store stuff sitting in my shower right now, the one with the weird green label that costs less than a gas station coffee. My niece spends a fortune at those fancy salons and her hair is always a frizzy mess, but mine looks fine with that $5 bottle. Sometimes I think the beauty industry is just run by a bunch of wizards trying to separate us from our hard-earned cash.

oh man, your aunt sounds like she knows what's up. my own hair routine is a total mess of cheap drugstore finds and free samples from work that i hoard like a little gremlin. half the time i grab whatever conditioner is on sale and my hair honestly does fine, maybe even better than when i used the fancy stuff. guess my head just likes being a budget queen.
