I used to say silk press on type 4 hair was a waste of money, then a client came back 6 weeks later
I always told clients that heat styling coarse hair was asking for damage and pushed them toward braidouts instead, but this one client in Tampa kept asking me to try a silk press and I finally caved last March. She came back 6 weeks later with hair that was still shiny and barely any split ends, because her at-home routine was on point with heat protectant and weekly deep condish. So now I'm wondering, how many of you have changed your mind on heat for tighter textures after seeing a real client keep it up?
My cousin in Houston had the total opposite happen with her silk press. She went to a spot that used cheap flat irons and no protectant, and her ends looked like a frayed rope within two weeks. She ended up chopping four inches off that summer. Same hair type as your client, different hands and different products. That gap between shops is honestly the whole story with heat on 4c.
