Shoutout to the old stylist who called me out on dirty brushes
Had a 30 year pro come into my chair last week. She looked at my brush caddy and just said "honey those are breeding grounds." Hit different coming from someone who's seen it all. I wash them every night now but she said most stylists don't deep clean bristles often enough. Anyone else ever get a wake up call from a senior stylist about sanitation habits?

I had to read that "breeding grounds" line twice. That's brutal but probably true for most of us. I'm sitting here looking at my brush drawer right now feeling guilty as hell. You ever actually pull the hair out of a boar bristle brush and look at what's underneath? I did once and it was... not great. Skin flakes, old product gunk, dust. Pretty gross when you think about it. I bet most stylists including me don't clean them nearly enough. That old pro probably sees stuff that would make us all sick.

Read somewhere that boar bristle brushes basically act like a filter for all the oil and dead skin on your scalp. So yeah, you're basically rubbing last year's skin flakes back into your hair every time you brush. Gross.

Wait, you mean there's like actual skin flakes and gunk hidden under those bristles? I've been using the same boar bristle brush for like two years and I've never once thought to pull the hair out and look down there. That's disgusting.
