Spent $120 on a hair steamer that just fogs up my kitchen

I bought one of those fancy salon-grade steamers online after a stylist in Portland swore it would transform my at-home deep conditioning, but it basically just made my bathroom mirror impossible to see through for 20 minutes. My hair felt fine, maybe a little damp, but I could have gotten the same result by standing over a pot of boiling water. Has anyone actually made those things work, or is this just a fancy humidifier I got tricked into buying?
