Tried that viral butterfly haircut method last week and it actually worked for my fine hair

Ive got that super thin hair that looks flat no matter what. Saw a tik tok from some girl in Texas showing how she does the butterfly cut with just scissors and a ponytail. Rolled my eyes but tried it on a client who asked for volume. Her hair actually looked fuller after. Didnt expect that. Anybody else had luck with those diy cutting tricks?

Gotta disagree with you there. I tried that ponytail trick on my own fine hair and ended up with choppy layers that looked like a Kindergarten craft project. It might work if you have great natural texture but my straight hair just looked uneven no matter how careful I was. You think it would work on someone with oily hair like mine though?

Haha oh man, I feel this so hard! I tried that exact same ponytail method on my own hair and it came out looking like a total mess too. Straight fine hair just doesn't hold up to that kind of DIY chopping, I swear. The first time I did it I had to run to a salon to get it fixed because I had this weird layered mullet thing going on. But I've seen it work miracles on clients with wavy or thicker hair, so it's probably more about the hair type than the technique itself.
