Why does nobody talk about the weird way some hair reacts to certain toners?
I had a client with what looked like a perfect level 8 ash blonde base after bleaching, so I used my usual violet-based toner. Instead of cooling down, it pulled this strange greenish-gray cast, especially around her temples. I had to do a quick color correction with a tiny bit of warm demi-color to balance it out. Has anyone else run into hair that just grabs the wrong tone like that, and what do you think causes it?

Oh man, that green-gray surprise is the worst. Xena_brown50 is totally right about mineral buildup being a likely culprit, hard water is a sneaky beast. In my experience, hair that's been bleached a few times can also get a bit porous and grab the violet pigment way too hard, flipping it green. A quick test strand with a bit of clarifying shampoo first can save you from that whole mess. Sometimes you just need a filler or a different toner base to stop the grabby hair from misbehaving.

That green tint is a classic sign of mineral overload. Hard water or old product buildup can make hair grab the cool tones all wrong. Always do a strand test first, saves so much headache.

Ever feel like some hair just has a grudge against you? That green-gray nonsense is the hair's way of saying it still has some hidden warmth or mineral build-up it didn't show you. What a fun little surprise party to fix, right?
